The Dojo Kun is a set of rules outlining expected behaviours on the training hall floor that one is encouraged to practice outside of Karate training. Generally, the Dojo Kun is read aloud at the end of each class to remind students of the right attitude, frame of mind and virtues to strive for both within and outside of the Dojo.

Each point starts with Hitotsu, which literally means “one”. This is generally interpreted to mean that each of the Dojo Kun points is equally important and therefore were not numbered to be interpreted as decreasing importance.
